Can you use a mountain bike tire on a trainer?
At a minimum, purchase a training tire for use when riding your mountain bike on a trainer. This tire should have a durable compound and have a smooth tread. As I mentioned above, soft compound tires with tread can melt on a trainer! Plus, tires with tread cause extra noise.

Is a trainer tire worth it?
Trainer tire is $40 or less. It will last much longer than a regular one, it sticks nicely to the trainer’s roller. Quieter. No chunks coming apart and debris.
Can you use a mountain bike on a tacx trainer?
The rear axle attaches directly to the turbo trainer and many provide a range of axle options including most regular mountain bike setups through removable endcaps, so you can fit your mountain bike to the trainer.
How important is a trainer tire?
Instead of treads for traction, the trainer tire is smooth and grips to the metal. As opposed to regular tires, trainer tires are heat resistant, which is important as it spins in the same place on a barrel consistently throughout your workout.
