How is LP gain calculated?

LP is determined based on your Matchmaking Rating, or MMR for short. It’s a hidden number that represents a player’s skill, to some more familiar as Elo. This number is different from your actual ranking. Riot uses it as a way to determine how much LP you should gain or lose.

Why am I getting 14 LP per win?

probably because you played a lot or have a high rank? Its hard the the system to find players with similar mmr so they have to use lower mmr players. That makes you get less LP per win and lose more per loss. It will take a couple of games.

Why am I gaining less LP per win?

As with any average-type system, the more games you play in a season the less each individual game will affect the system. MMR is no different. If you’re in Gold 4 and all of a sudden have a 10 game win streak, the MMR system keeps your account in check and grants you less LP per win.

The MMR system in LoL will put two teams of equal average elo rating against each other, so for example if team 1 had one gold player, one diamond player, and three platinum players, the other team would have 5 platinum players to equalize the game MMR and skill level and make sure it’s not an uneven match.
