Why can’t you back up with a tow bar?
Do Not Backup with a Tow Bar When you have your towed vehicle connected to the RV and attempt to back up, you will certainly cause damage. Tow bars are designed to handle the load and stress in one direction.
Why can’t you back up with a weight distribution hitch?
Expert Reply: Some weight distribution system prohibit reversing because doing so could damage the system. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.

Can I back up while flat towing?

Can you reverse with a tow bar?
Expert Reply: When flat towing a vehicle you cannot reverse the setup at all. You’d have to disconnect the towed vehicle and reverse it by itself before reversing the motorhome. If you attempted to do this you’d most likely damage the tow bar and vehicle.
